The Historian

My dear friend, Elizabeth, has received the most wonderful news. Now I can say I went to school with that famous writer. You'll probably see her novel everywhere in the future.

Go here to read more about the sale of an MFA student's first novel, a work that took close to a decade.

Note: Not every MFA student graduates with this kind of success!

Hey Van

Does that mean that your friend pockets that sum minus an obligatory 10% to her agent? If so, I should then mentally divide that figure by ten years of hard slog and sacrifice.

Even then, the divided figure still boggles my mind! I can't wait to read it! I may be tempted to divide the extent (page-count for non-editors!) by the money.

I'm not being glib or flippant. I'm sure everyone has a certain fascination with large sums of money, not only me.

How exciting. And yes, it will be your turn some day. Then take me to Cafe Rosso, too. Your shout!

;-)

Let's meet for lunch some time soon.

B, I figure the agent does get a cut, but I'm not sure how much. Oh my dad did a quick division too - the figure is boggling, isn't it?

Definitely check out Cafe Rosso, we can go one day if you're up to it.
