The final official MFA party for me. The farewell party was held at the interim director's house, but I'm not going to write much about it and get sappy. I did take many photos though. Still need to take time to figure out Flicker.
Got home and watched the animated short film, More. Another great recomendation from noob. Six minutes of wonder.
re flickr: i could help you out with one photo upload if you want and then you might be able to get the hang of it. or i can do a screenshot... but maybe when i am back from my long weekend.
Posted by: tiggie at April 28, 2005 4:03 AM6mins of wonder indeed!
Posted by: tiggie at April 28, 2005 4:15 AMThanks, Tiggie. Only if you've time. I should find some time soon to learn it though.
Did you like it too then? I want to see the other one but I think only the trailer's available.
Posted by: monoceros at April 30, 2005 10:30 AMyes i liked it... was wondering what the fire inside the creature might have symbolized...
Posted by: tiggie at May 4, 2005 7:30 AMI think the fire represents his soul, the one warm, colorful, and vibrant thing in him. So taking it out to place in his product made the glasses a success but emptied him.
Posted by: monoceros at May 4, 2005 9:46 AMyes i thought so too, but then i thought it's really sad that the soul became empty... and i wondered what the souls of those who wear his bliss glasses would become... and whether it might be ironic... because he's still pinning for his happy yester-years... oh no... i hope i am not blabbering nonsense. *quick tiggie: hide!*
Posted by: tiggie at May 4, 2005 11:07 AMThe "bliss" product is just a temporary escape; it deceives the wearer. A false happpiness that's shown in the scene when the younger worker looks up at the protagonist shouting from his parapet, but when he puts on the glasses, he sees the boss waving happily. You're right, Tigs, it's certainly ironic. He wanted more than his job originally, dreaming of creating a new product, and he succeeded, but he still wants more. He didn't get real happiness, which seems to exist only when he was a child, or in the memory of his childhood.

oh yah, i forgot about the 'false happiness'/illusion of a happy world -- but i remember thinking how cynical it was!
seems as though it's indirectly suggesting that we too, have various wants and desires that we think we must have/achieve, but we are often left dissatisfied even if we managed to succeed in obtaining what we thought we needed... etc.
it dares us to question and ask what our definition of happiness is... and whether we can define it... and whether one can even attempt to 'manufacture' it... (oh i better stop but this is so fun...)
wonderful 6 minutes of thought-provoking wonder!
Posted by: tiggie at May 4, 2005 2:32 PMone more from silly tiggie:
maybe if society were less 'consumer-driven'... people might not be fooled to think that happiness can be purchased...
Posted by: tiggie at May 4, 2005 3:17 PMVery good ideas, Tigs! And right ones too. Just six minutes, but it really got me thinking as well. I wonder what his other short is like. Only a trailer though. "More" is so good though!
Posted by: monoceros at May 5, 2005 12:53 AMheee... it's really nice to be able to discuss it! =c)
i wonder too... maybe they might show it at the Film House... sometimes they include a short with foreign films... hmmm. i'll let you know if i chance on it! =c)
