This week's free download on Itunes is a laidback acoustic ditty called "Put Your Records On" by Briton, Corinne Bailey Rae. A song for the summer; a song for the girls; a song to keep me company as I work tonight. This world isn't going to let us off easy; we should all put our records on sometime.
"Three little birds, sat on my window.
And they told me I don't need to worry.
Summer came like cinnamon
So sweet,
Little girls double-dutch on the concrete.
Maybe sometimes, we got it wrong, but it's alright
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same
Oh, don't you hesitate.
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.
Blue as the sky, sombre and lonely,
Sipping tea in the bar by the road side,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Gotta love that afro hairdo.
Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it's alright
The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change.
Don't you think it's strange?
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.
Just more than I could take, pity for pity's sake
Some nights kept me awake, I thought that I was stronger
When you gonna realise, that you don't even have to try any longer.
Do what you want to.
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.
Oh, You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow"

Posted by: tiggie at June 2, 2006 4:41 AMHey Eugenia, good to hear you!
Tiggie, yes, you certainly don't need to have an iPod to give you reason to have Itunes. Itunes is a great music organizer. And plus, if you're in the US or have an American credit card, you get to have free stuff every week. It's really easy to set up. So make sure you get "Put your records on" this week, yeah?
Posted by: monoceros at June 2, 2006 9:46 AMrats, i dont' have an american credit card. =)
the lyrics are good! i'll drop by gramophone one day to listen to it, i've seen her album around.
Posted by: a l at June 3, 2006 3:09 PMActually, this is the kind of song I think you'd like, a l. You may or may not find this version on her album; this is an acoustic one. I can put together a bunch of songs, including this one, on a CD when I get some time. Promised DSD one too. Will pass it to you before I go or when I return with Artoo Potatoo. =)
